Fundus Photography

What is Fundus Photography?

Fundus photography is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses a specialized camera to take high-resolution images of the interior lining of the eye, typically after dilating the pupils with eye drops.

How is Fundus Photography Performed?

The procedure for fundus photography is straightforward and non-invasive:

  1. Pupil Dilation: Eye drops are administered to dilate the pupils, allowing a better view of the retina and optic nerve.
  2. Photography: The patient looks into a specialized camera, and the images are captured. The camera uses a flash of light to take high-resolution photographs of the retina.
  3. Image Analysis: The captured images are analyzed by the ophthalmologist to assess retinal health and diagnose any conditions.

Benefits of Fundus Photography

  • Detailed Documentation: Provides high-resolution images that are useful for documenting retinal conditions and tracking changes over time.
  • Early Detection: Helps in the early detection of retinal diseases, allowing for timely intervention and management.
  • Non-Invasive: The procedure is quick, painless, and does not involve any direct contact with the eye.
